The Wisconsin Badgers are out on the hunt for 2028 recruits and have been putting out a ton of offers lately. However, the most intriguing offer went to the top 2028 running back in the nation. Luke Fickell knows that the identity of the Badgers has to be the running back position; he had to learn it the hard way, but he learned it nonetheless. He now has a loaded running back room and is chasing after top running backs in the next couple of classes.
For 2028, he has his sights set on the No. 1 running back, Ian Thomas. Not only did Fickell submit an offer to Thomas, but he was also able to convince Thomas to come to Madison on a visit next month. There's some real momentum for Wisconsin and Thomas, even though it's very early in the recruiting cycle for 2028.

Thomas is currently listed as the No. 1 running back in 2028, but the No. 39 overall recruit according to 24/7 Sports. He's the fifth-best player in the state of Texas and already holds 18 offers from many of the top programs. The Badgers and Thomas would be a match made in heaven. Getting a visit shows there's real energy between the two parties, but pulling a top recruit out of Texas will take a great deal of effort, especially if he stays at the top of the running back list.
The recruiting in the 2028 class is still shaping up, and according to 24/7 Sports, the Badgers have already offered about 12 running backs in the class. There is a real effort from Luke Fickell to keep bringing in top backs.
In 2027, Fickell was able to get the top in-state player, who is also a running back, to commit to the Badgers. Kingston Allen ran for over 3,000 yards in 2025, and he's the next recruit up to bring RB-U back.
Though, 2026 may beat him to it, as Wisconsin has a whole stable full of backs. It's truly one of the deepest positions on the roster with college experience and high intensity running up and down the list.
