After one week of fall camp, there have been a lot of positive signs from the Badgers as they prepare for the season opener in less than a month. But so far according to head coach Luke Fickell, one position group has risen above the rest and has done the best job so far.
"It's probably the group that, like I said, was the most competitive group from the Spring," said Fickell during his media availability. "Collectively, it might be the group that I think has done even the best job in the first five, six, seven days."
Wisconsin's running backs continue to impress at fall camp
The dynamic duo of Dilin Jones and Darrion Dupree have consistently made big plays all throughout at camp, while guys like Cade Yacamelli and Gideon Ituka continue to impress as well. The group is extremely deep, so much so that there might not be enough carries to go around come September.
There's no doubt that Wisconsin will once again lean heavily on the run game this year. But what might be the most impressive thing Fickell has seen from the backs this week isn't their running ability.
"And it's not just what they're doing with the ball in their hand," Fickell said. "It's more impressive what they're doing without the ball right now."
Pass protection is huge part of the game, and often one that goes overlooked. Just ask Cade Yacamelli if plans on backing down.
The heat was brought.

It's great to hear that a team who plans to run often, has their group of running backs performing the best in camp. While the Badgers haven't named a starter yet, and might not for some time, expect to see some incredible plays from these talented backs this year.
