For the second time this offseason, Luke Fickell has dipped into Western Michigan's coaching staff pool to fill a position on his staff. This time, defensive coordinator Scott Power will be headed to Wisconsin as a defensive assistant, according to Football Scoop.

The Broncos' wide receivers coach, Jordan Reid, left to take the same role with the Badgers, and now Power will follow suit and take his talents to Madison. Power spent two seasons with Louisiana Tech before joining Western Michigan as their defensive coordinator in a season where the Broncos went 6-7.

The Broncos' leading sacker, defensive lineman Corey Walker, who finished last season with 5.5, has already committed to the Badgers and will now be reunited with his DC.

Fickell hires new assistant as a part of staff rebuild

After a 5-7 season, the Badgers were left with a lot of questions to answer. Many of those questions revolved around the coaching staff, and Fickell has been hard at work to re-vamp his team. he brought in a new offensive coordinator in Jeff Grimes and has replaced a number of position coaches, including safeties, linebackers, tight ends, quarterbacks and receivers.

The Badger defense allowed over 23 points per game last season, including some real clunkers, like allowing 42 points to Iowa and 44 to Nebraska. Power will look to help a unit that desperately lacked a true identity in 2024. With several new transfers and staff members, the 2025 Badger defense will look completely different, which maybe isn't such a bad thing.
