For the fourth time on Monday, the Wisconsin Badgers football team has picked up a commitment from a transfer portal target. And for the second time today, it's a quarterback who has decided to let head coach Luke Fickell know he'll be Wisconsin-bound.
Moments ago, Maryland QB transfer Billy Edwards Jr. announced on his Twitter page that he has indeed committed to Wisconsin. San Diego State QB Danny O'Neil already signed with the Badgers and now Edwards is on the way too. The QBs room is all of a sudden getting pretty full for UW:
Former Maryland QB Billy Edwards Jr. has committed to Wisconsin and Luke Fickell
This is the veteran QB the Badgers were looking for. When O'Neil committed, a lot of us thought that he'd be the automatic starter for this team in 2025, but let's hold the phone on that. Now that Edwards is going to be on his way to town, there's going to be stiff competition, with Edwards potentially the favorite to land the job.
As soon as he announced he was entering the portal, Edwards started receiving plenty of recruiting attention. Wisconsin reached out, but as did Michigan and others. Originally, Edwards was supposed to take a visit to Ann Arbor, but that trip was canceled at the last minute.
Per 247Sports, Edwards took a visit to Virginia on Monday, but after meeting with the Cavs staff, it looks like Edwards was sold on what Fickell told him about the future of this program. It was a down year for the Badgers, but with all the transfer commits for 2025, things are finally moving in the right direction. Fans are pretty dang excited right now and they have plenty of reasons for that. Fickell is on fire out on the recruiting trail, which is great too.
