Mason Posa may be the biggest Wisconsin fan favorite going into the season. He's not only a star linebacker who will only be a sophomore. He seems to actually bleed Badger. He loves being a Wisconsin football player, and he loves donning the red and white. He even recently said, "I love this place, and I'm willing to die and sacrifice anything for this program to be winning again."

That's an incredible quote and is worthy of its own article, but there's another one to highlight. Posa was talking about the defensive unit this spring, and he was startled by how good it looks. "I think this defense could be one of the best in the country."

Notice that he didn't say the best defense since he's been here or even the best defense in the Big Ten. He said he thinks this defense is one of the best in the country. And he's not just saying that because he's juiced up about Wisconsin and enjoying his own smell. He articulates that it's what he's seeing on the field.

Posa said the offense looks a ton better this season, and Cooper Catalano echoed that. And yet, Posa said, the defense is still making plays. Stopping this "better offense." The players are flying around and making plays.

If Posa is right, this is big for Wisconsin. Not simply the "top defense" language, but the fact that the offense is better. This "iron sharpens iron" idea is appealing. Wisconsin needs a good season. It doesn't need to win a national championship, but Wisconsin fans are circling seven wins and hoping for eight.

The schedule is more doable, and if the offense is better and the defense is elite, eight may be more realistic than we all think. Posa is hyped about the idea at least.
