The Wisconsin Badgers just won their seventh straight match and their fifth straight ranked win. This time, they took down the No. 24 Illinois Fighting Illini in three straight sets. There were a lot of great moments for the Badgers, and Wisconsin was firing on a lot of cylinders to make this sweep happen, but the one play that stole the night was Kristen Simon's save and kill. It was incredible.
It also says way more about this Badger volleyball team than you would imagine, but first let's get to the highlights and see it from two different angles. The new angle that wasn't initially shown is perfect. First, let's see how it looked live and in the broadcast replays:

The new angle that a user on X was able to clip and then put into slow motion shows how incredible this was. The ability to not only reach the ball, but make a powerful hit while flying through the air - enough to get it to the net and then over the net is...WOW!
@BadgerVB What incredible hustle and two incredible digs by the Wisconsin Badgers in one of the best plays you will ever see in volleyball. A @SportsCenter Top Ten moment. pic.twitter.com/9IwmHdC7HJ

Wisconsin's depth and hustle was on full display in the 3-set sweep of Illinois

The replays are crazy, and hats off to Kristen Simon for making that final play happen. It was also a kill that you may never see again in volleyball. She somehow got a kill with an underhand hit, facing backward, flying through the air. Truly, one of the craziest volleyball plays you'll ever see.
And yet, it was crazy already leading up to it. It was multiple bodies flying around to make that happen. There's no reason that should have been a Wisconsin point except for the pure hustle of the entire team.
This may be the larger point. This play, while incredible, points to a larger reality. This team knows that they play their best when they outhustle the opponent. When they are flying around and when they stay connected. It's a team effort, and you can see how impressive it is that all of them are willing to leave everything on the floor.
The other cool part about this play is that it shows how deep this team is. Simon was the starting libero last year and yet has been mostly playing behind Anna Bardaro this season. She's still often the first player off the bench and one of the best defensive specialists in the Big Ten. This is even more obvious after this play.
Now, the Badgers head to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on the undefeated Cornhuskers, who are now officially ranked No. 1 in the nation. It's a giant that Wisconsin has been unable to take down in the last few years, but now it feels like an opportune time.
It will take a lot of the hustle you see above, and a bit more. Nebraska may not have more talent, but they certainly have more experience, and often that matters in these high-level Big Ten battles. The match is Saturday, October 10, at 6 pm and it will be nationally streamed on FOX. You won't want to miss it.
