As the NBA season winds down and draft season picks up, a handful of major media outlets have begun to release their final 2026 draft boards. These boards are all, of course, opinionated and do not directly reflect what NBA front offices think of players, but at the very least they give a sense of where higher-ups believe guys will land.

The Wisconsin Badgers have one player from last season's team who is aiming to hear his name called on draft night, 25-year-old guard Nick Boyd, and evaluations on him have been a mixed bag. Boyd was absent from FanSided’s most recent top-50 board, adding to the growing speculation that he won't hear his name called on draft night.

Boyd already had an uphill battle ahead of him, being one of the oldest prospects in this year's draft along with having some hefty size concerns that aren't working in his favor. Boyd did build a little momentum for himself at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine, showcasing his playmaking, scoring, and even defensive prowess, which left scouts more optimistic about his long-term outlook.

However, it still seems as if he is trending toward not being selected on draft night, which is understandable given the NBA’s recent age and height preferences for guard prospects.

What’s Next

Even if Boyd isn't popping up on a lot of major boards, he still has hope for his future in basketball. For one, it only takes one really good workout or interview with a team looking for a guard to sway that team enough to draft him. Even if that isn't the case, Boyd will undoubtedly be given at least a cup of coffee in the league, purely based on his proven prowess against the highest levels of competition.

Whether that cup of coffee comes in the form of a two-way contract, an Exhibit 10, or just a Summer League deal remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that Boyd will find himself with a future in the sport of basketball.
