Although Nick Boyd spent just one year with the Wisconsin Badgers, the impact he left on the program will last a lifetime. Boyd’s tenure with the program may have been short-lived, but his production was truly special, averaging 20.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists a game. He was as dynamic as any Wisconsin guard in recent memory, leaving him destined for a future in professional basketball.

Recently, Boyd appeared on “Butches Den,” a podcast hosted by another former Wisconsin basketball star, Brian Butch, where Boyd was given a chance to reflect on what made his time in Madison so great.

“I gotta thank the Kohl Center,” Boyd said. “For matching my energy, surpassing my energy, I was excited for every single day that I got to lace up.”

It was clear from the jump that Boyd embodied what it meant to be a Badger. Each and every home game, he thrived off the energy that both he and the crowd created, creating an environment that will be remembered. But it wasn't just the fans that Boyd wanted to thank.

“I want to say thank you to my teammates, most importantly,” Boyd said. “My teammates, they allowed me to be myself, thrive, and be competitive. If I went right, they went right; if I went left, they went left. If I was wrong, we was all wrong and I appreciated that.”

Although there were definitely some down moments last year with the program, one thing is certain: the guys never gave up on each other. Especially at the start of the year, it seemed as if things were a bit out of whack. Guys weren't meshing with one another, the offense was a lot of tradeoff isolation or ball-screen reps, and it seemed as if nobody could find their rhythm.

However, like Boyd said, the team always stuck together and in the end put together one heck of a season.

Looking Ahead

The future ahead for Boyd may be a bit murky, but it's undoubtedly bright. After a strong showing at the NBA draft combine, including a 23-point, 5-rebound and 8-assist performance in the first scrimmage, he seems to be on track to getting drafted in late June.

However, even if the NBA isn't in Boyd’s future, he has, without a doubt, built himself one heck of a resume that he continues to build upon each and every day.
