It's no secret that Wisconsin football has been down. At a low point, everyone is looking for optimistic signs that things are going to turn for the Badgers. Former Wisconsin Badgers cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean is one of those. He joined ESPN Madison and wasn't scared at all to be candid about how bad Wisconsin has been, and even the reasons they were terrible, but also offered some hopeful moments.
He said that in 2023, even though it was a better year than 2024, the team (players) didn't believe in the Badgers or where things were headed. It got worse in 2024 as Fourqurean said, "We had a lot of quit." The Iowa blowout that season just demoralized everyone and took the whole rest of the season down with it.

The future looks bright for Wisconsin as the young guys are now leading the locker room

Fourqurean says that last season, things began to change. It may not have looked great in the wins and losses columns, but the locker room was evolving and growing. He said that young guys began to step into the voids of leadership. Teammates began looking to Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano, even though they were freshmen.
Fourqurean said that people were noticing Mason Reiger's work ethic and pushing themselves too. That, even though the season wasn't great in terms of winning, he noticed things beginning to turn around. "You can see that we had more life...that's a good thing to know, and things are trending in the right direction. Hopefully, this year, things can get back on track to where they used to be."
The culture is changing at Wisconsin, and you can see it happening right before our eyes. Fans are hoping that it also converts to more wins. But recruiting has been better, leadership in the locker room, and the most exciting parts of Wisconsin football are young players. The future does seem brighter than the past, and 2026 may not be a home run, but really, it just needs to be a single. As the program works to load the bases again.
