Al Toon was drafted in the 1985 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Toon was with the Jets for eight seasons and was a three-time Pro Bowler. He was also a full-time starter and an All-Pro selection twice.

In his rookie season, Toon racked up 662 yards on 46 receptions and three touchdowns. He also took care of the ball and did not have any fumbles during his rookie season. However, Toon's best season was his second season in 1986 where he started every game for the Jets and finished the season with 1,176 yards on 85 receptions and eight touchdowns.

In his fourth season, Toon led the league in receptions with 93, that was his only other season he had over 1,000 yards with exactly 1,067 yards and five touchdowns. Toon's final season was not his best as he was only able to play in nine games injuries and concussions. Toon was forced to retire after eight seasons due to a multitude of concussions.
