The NFL deadline to trim rosters down to 53 players was Tuesday. A lot of former Badgers found themselves on the fence, so who made a roster and who will be looking to latch on elsewhere?

Former Badgers Cut

QB Tanner Mordecai
CB Faion Hicks
CB Rachad Wildgoose
OT Tyler Beach
TE Hayden Rucci
CB Jason Maitre
DL Matt Henningsen
WR Quintez Cephus

Some of these players will be able to re-join the team as a practice squad member if they can clear waivers. Tanner Mordecai will be a strong candidate to make the San Fransisco 49ers squad as well as Hayden Rucci with the Dolphins. As for some veterans like Quintez Cephus, they may join a team affected by injury later in the season.

Overall, Wisconsin has 26 former players currently on an NFL roster. The surprise of the preseason was undrafted rookie Maema Njongmeta of the Bengals. After poor testing before the draft, he never heard his name called, but the rookie has balled out all preseason to make the 53-man roster. Jonathan Taylor and T.J. Watt are two of the best at their position while vets like Russell Wilson and Kevin Zeitler are towards the end of some legendary careers.
