Badgers Use Last Scholarship on Serbian Center Andrija Vukovic
Wisconsin has filled their final scholarship with the addition of Andrija Vukovic, the team announced.
Head coach Greg Gard offered his thoughts on the roster move in a statement.
“We are excited to announce the addition of Andrija to our program,” Gard said. “Since the conclusion of last season, our staff has been on a mission to find an impact big man to help our team going into next year. After watching all of the film, countless phone calls and zoom chats, we were fortunate to find such a tremendous player and person that will fit in perfectly with our program.”
Vukovic most recently played basketball for KK Vršac in the Basketball League of Serbia. There he averaged 6.1 points, 2.5 boards and 0.7 assists per game. He'll come to Madison as a seasoned and experienced player.
It's no secret the Badgers had been trying to add more frontcourt depth behind Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter. Georgia's Frank Anselem-Ibe and 'Juco player Noah Boyed had been at the top of the list until they transferred elsewhere and the Badgers were forced to pivot.
How Vukovic fits into the rotation will be an interesting storyline as the season starts, and the battle between him and Winter will be one to watch.
