Badger safety Hunter Wohler was already named to the Bronco Nagurski watchlist earlier this week. That award, given to the nation's best defensive player, is now being followed up another nomination for Wohler. The Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in football, released their list of preseason nominations and the Badger leader once again found himself on a watchlist.
Wohler is one of seven Big Ten players to receive a nomination. Last season, he led the team in total tackles by a wide margin with 120, adding one sack and two interceptions. As the leader of the defense, he'll look to anchor the Badger secondary along with cornerback Ricardo Hallman Jr.
The Jim Thorpe Award is given to the best defensive back in the country and is based on factors like on-field performance and character. The finalist for the award will be announced on November 26th with the winner being announced on December 12th.
Wohler continues to gain preseason recognition, and it won't stop with these last few nominations.
