First Badger Medal of the 2024 Olympics Won by Alev Kelter
The first medal to be won by a current or former Badger in this year's Olympics was by Alev Kelter in Women's Rugby. Team USA defeated Australia to take home the Bronze.
Kelter was a dual-sport athlete for the Badgers, playing both soccer and ice hockey. After she graduated in 2013, she turned her focus to rugby. The 33-year old Kelter went viral for her brutal stiff arm in an earlier matchup against Brazil, providing the highlight play of the Olympics so far.
Against Australia, the U.S. came back in the final minute to win a bronze, the team's first medal in the Olympic history. USA found themselves losing 12-7 with just a minute left to play. The team would not be denied, though, as they won on a last second try over the Aussies.
Six Badgers will be in action tomorrow including USWNT's Rose Lavelle and USA Voleyball's Lauren Carlini. More Badgers will going for gold throughout the Olympics and you can find their full schedule here.
