UNLV's quarterback Matthew Sluka made waves today when he shockingly announced he would step away from the team after a 3-0 start. His dissatisfaction with the team seems to lie with an NIL dispute. Sluka's agent is former Badger cornerback Marcus Cromartie, who claims that Sluka is owed some $100,000 from the university.

According to Pete Thamel, Sluka was verbally promised the money in return for transferring to UNLV, and it has yet to be paid. Cromartie, his agent, who played for the Badgers from 2009-2012, will now more than likely become the center of a controversy that will no doubt shake up college football.

The whole situation is pretty shocking on several levels. One, why would Cromartie not ask for pen to paper when it comes to this kind of agreement? And two, Sluka leaving a 3-0 and potential playoff team over the dispute could have huge ramifications for UNLV and the NIL landscape as a whole.

Everyone basically knew that NIL agreements were the Wild West, but now a prominent player is threatening to leave the team over one. It's the start of potentially many more NIL issues to come. As for Cromartie, who has worked at Equity Sports since 2020, he'll become the center of a controversy that is sure to be a long battle of 'he said, she said'.

As more details come out this week, we will have a better idea of how all this might affect not only Sluka and Cromartie, but NIL agreements in general.
