Former Badger quarterback Tanner Mordecai was selected in the ninth round of the UFL Draft by the DC Defenders on Wednesday.

The signal caller is currently a member of San Fransisco 49ers, but since he went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, he was still eligible to be selected into the UFL. He will face an uphill battle to make the Niners squad with Brock Purdy and Josh Dobbs as the presumed starter and backup, so the UFL could become an attractive option to Mordecai.

The DC Defenders currently have a capable quarterback of their own in Jordan Ta'amu, who won Player of the Year in 2023 for the defunct XFL. Either way, Mordecai will have his work cut out for him in 2024 to latch on to a professional roster.

During his lone season at Wisconsin, Mordecai threw for 2,066 yards and nine touchdowns while leading the Badgers to a 6-4 record in his starts.
