Del Rio has never coached in the college ranks before, but has plenty of football experience. The 61-year old played for 11 years in the NFL, and served as head coach for both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders. He most recently defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders.
It will be interesting to see how Del Rio's role unfolds. 'Senior Analyst' is a fairly generic description, but we can assume he'll act as a sounding board to Luke Fickell and help with some game planning for both offense and defense. Bringing in the former NFL coach this late in the summer also means that Del Rio will be learning on the job the first few weeks.
The Badgers open up their 2024 slate tomorrow against Western Michigan at 8:00PM.
