The Badgers won their week two matchup against South Dakota by a score of 27-13. Much like last week, although Wisconsin came out with a win, it wasn't as dominating as most fans would have hoped. Still, there were a lot of good things to see heading into week three and Alabama.

The Badger running back room is deep and talented. This isn't exactly breaking news, but Cade Yacamelli showed today that Wisconsin has three legitimate starters in the backfield. Hopefully the Tawee Walker injury is minor and he can play next week, but if not, the Badgers should feel confident in the Mellusi-Yacamelli duo.

Offensive coordinator Phil Longo heard the fans' pleas to throw the ball downfield. The Badger offense looked more dynamic in general, having five explosive plays including two flea flickers. Wisconsin had longs of 50 yards through the air and a 29 yard rush, compared to 17 yards and 13 yards last week.

Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke looked sharper, hitting some impressive throws including one on the run while rolling out to his right. He still needs to improve his pocket presence.

The run defense is still troubling after allowing more than 120 yards in back-to-back weeks against inferior teams. However Elijah Hills is starting to make a name for himself with a sack now in each of the first two games. The edge rush, however, has been somewhat of a disappointment so far this year after adding transfers Leon Lowery Jr. and John Pius.

There was another botched punt return in this game, but unlike last week, this one went against the Badgers. Returner Vinny Anthony coughed one up deep in Badger territory. We'll see if they make any adjustments at that position moving forward.

Freshman cornerback Xavier Lucas, who had an impressive interception against Western Michigan, exited with an injury. He did not return and it'll be something to watch this week.

A few true freshman got into the game at end including running backs Dilin Jones and Darrion Dupree. Tackles Kevin Heywood and Barrett Nelson also saw some action.

Overall, despite another win and starting 2-0 for the first time since 2020, it wasn't a dominating performance and there's good reason to worry about the Tide rolling into town. Letting MAC or FCS schools hang close until the fourth quarter doesn't exactly show a team ready to take on the giants of college football and push for a playoff positions. Still, with a great secondary and an offense finding some rhythm, anything is possible.
