After suffering an injury in Wisconsin's game against Alabama on Saturday, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke may miss some time going forward. In the event that he can't play, backup Braedyn Locke will run the offense in his absence. So what can fans expect from the redshirt sophomore?

The Texas native started his career at Mississippi State before transferring to Madison last year. Locke did actually see a good amount of playing time last season after then starter Tanner Mordecai was sidelined with an injury. He ended up playing in five games in 2023, finishing with 777 yards and five touchdowns to only one interception.

He played well enough that throughout the offseason, coaches announced he would be battling Van Dyke for the starting job. Reports were that he was much improved and pushed Van Dyke all the way to end for the opportunity to start. In the end, Van Dyke won out but head coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo maintained that the quarterback duo were '1A and 1B' rather than a starter and a backup.

If Van Dyke does miss significant time, Wisconsin is one of a few teams with a backup that could be just as talented as the starter. It may take some time for Locke to find a groove after losing the starter battle in August, but fans should feel confident in his ability to once again come in and play quality football for the Badgers.
