The Badgers are apparently trying out redshirt freshman running back Nate White at wide receiver. The running back room, headlined by Chez Mellusi and Oklahoma transfer Tawee Walker, has also seen some impressive work done by Darrion Dupree and Dilin Jones, creating a very crowded situation for White to make an impact.

Here's his original scouting report from Allen Trieu at 247Sports, which hinted at his abilities to make the switch to receiver.

Slippery, exciting offensive threat who can make defenders miss and score from anywhere on the field. Played wildcat quarterback as a junior largely out of necessity. At the next level, he is a player that you can get touches to in any capacity whether that is jet sweeps, screens, wildcat, traditional handoffs and as a return man. Because of his quarterback background, his ability as a downfield receiver is unknown but he could be a slot receiver too. Has to get stronger still and if he moves to tailback or receiver, learn technically there but he has the ability to play a variety of roles in an offense.

The wide receiver room may provide White with a better opportunity to see the field. Although the top players are established in Will Pauling and Bryson Green, the bottom of the depth chart looks to be open to a number of players including potentially White. The coaching staff seems excited about future with the move.

Whether White can make an impact this year is up in the air, but it seems like there is a better chance he can suit up at receiver than at running back, at least for 2024.
