Robin Pingeton lands 4-star commitment for Wisconsin, beating out Georgetown and UNLV

Robin Pingeton and Wisconsin women's basketball land the first big commitment for the 2027 recruiting class, Vivian Grenald. The 6'2 forward from San Juan Capistrano, California, is listed as a 4-star recruit and a top-100 women's basketball player in her class. Pingeton has been known for her ability to recruit well, but this is probably the biggest recruit for Pingeton since arriving in Madison.

Grenald had a lot of suitors: Arizona, Loyola Marymount, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, Georgetown, among others. However, it was Wisconsin that landed the prized 4-star commitment. She's a player who has a lot to offer to the Badgers and will also fit in nicely by the time she arrives on campus.

What Vivian Grenald brings to the Wisconsin Badgers

Grenald is a 6'2 forward who knows how to use her size inside. She can work in the paint and has a high motor with a relentless pursuit of the rebound. Watch this clip to see some of her work in the paint:

The impressive part of Grenald's game, and what likely made her a priority recruit for Pingeton, is that she has the ability to stretch the floor. She is comfortable knocking down shots on the outside and even working with a dribble drive in the paint. She also loves to run in transition. All of these things are a big part of the Wisconsin Badgers' identity under Pingeton.

Pingeton will want to clean up some of the footwork and even get her a little bit higher above the rim when she's in the paint to help on defense. Yet, the good news for Wisconsin fans is that Pingeton is bringing in top-end recruits. It will be interesting to see if Pingeton has her more inside or outside. Pingeton isn't as tied to height as other coaches and loves having a 6'2 or 6'3 guard in her offense. How Grenald would ideally fit into the roster in 2027

Of course, nothing is set in the modern world of college basketball. Even on the women's side, transfers are a major part of what happens every offseason. So there's no telling what the end of this season and the beginning of the next will look like. There's also the 5-in-5 rule that goes into effect starting next year, which could affect some of the roster math.

But she's filling a need for Wisconsin. The Badgers have five players listed as either a senior or a graduate student. Of those five, four of them are 6'0 or taller. Thus, immediately, Grenald steps onto the team and adds back the height that potentially is leaving at the conclusion of the season.

The important news for Wisconsin is that the first 2027 recruit is a 4-star top-100 player all the way on the West Coast. This is a momentum building recruit and hopefully there are more to follow as Pingeton builds off of Grenald.
