Wisconsin head coach Robin Pingeton received some good news this week when star 2029 recruit Avery Bollin decided to go on an unofficial visit to Madison. Bollin is one of the top players in her recruiting class and maybe in the country, and she's only headed into her sophomore year. Yet, at 6'3 and dominating on the AAU circuit, she's turning a ton of heads and getting a lot of high-major offers.
Pingeton may have a slight advantage if she plays her cards right. Bollin is the younger sister of Shay Bollin, who's currently one of the top players on Pingeton's Wisconsin roster. This is good news as Shay can help in the recruiting, but the downside is that the two are too far apart in years to be able to play together. Shay is already in her final season, while Avery is only going to be a high school sophomore.

2029 Avery Bollin could find herself being a 5-star recruit in the next year

It's pretty rare to have a ranking as a freshman in high school, and so it's no surprise that she's currently listed as "unranked," but she's already on a crash course for 5-star status in her class. Bollin has 15 offers already, and they continue to stack up. Those 15 offers are mostly big-time women's basketball programs: Florida, Michigan, Boston College, Michigan State, Louisville, Missouri, Penn State, Purdue, Arkansas, Clemson, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and others.
According to Talia Goodman, Bollin will be on both the campuses of Louisville and Wisconsin this week for unofficial visits. While Rivals currently has Boston College and Michigan as the favorites.
She watched her sister's recruitment and knows a thing or two about what it looks like to be a top player. Shay was No. 26 in the 2022 recruiting class and ended up committing to Duke, only playing in eight games off the bench. Shay transferred to Illinois, where she attended the next two seasons. Finally, she landed at Wisconsin to help out a brand new Badger head coach in Pingeton.
Bollin had her best season last year on both ends of the court. While she only averaged 3.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, she saw a big boost in minutes and production from her time at either Duke or Illinois.
It's hard to know how much of a role Shay's time at Wisconsin will play for Avery, but it certainly will be a factor in one way or another. Now that Avery is headed to Madison for an official visit, can Pingeton begin that relationship that could eventually see a top-rated recruit in a Badger uniform in 2029? That would be pretty big for the program.
