Slow-motion clip of the Billy Edwards Jr. injury has Wisconsin fans fearing the worst

We can only hope this isn't a serious injury.

It's almost unbelievable the bad luck the Wisconsin football team has had in recent years at quarterback. Thursday night was supposed to be a fresh start, but now everyone is holding their breath after Billy Edwards Jr. went down with a non-contact injury.

This looked like a simple handoff, but Edwards planted his foot awkwardly and moments later he fell to the turf. He tried getting up, but he was clearly in a ton of pain. When this happened, you could have heard a pin drop in Madison.

Edwards, thankfully, was able to walk off the field under his own power and he made his way back to the locker room. Wisconsin originally announced he was questionable to return with a lower-body injury, but he's since been ruled out. His status for Week 2 is totally unknown too, as the clip below shows everyone how bad this looked at first:

Billy Edwards Injury Update: Wisconsin fans holding breath after QB leaves game early

Wisconsin QB Billy Edwards Jr. has been ruled out after suffering a non-contact injury

During his halftime interview with the Big Ten Network, head coach Luke Fickell didn't address the injuty. Instead, he said that the team needs to play with more consistency in the second half. It felt a bit concerning that Fickell didn't address Edwards' status at all.

We're not going to speculate on the severity of the injury, but a quick look on social media shows that plenty of Wisconsin supporters are worried that this may be an Achilles issue. Nothing has been confirmed there, as we're all waiting for an update to come in soon. Edwards being ruled out for the rest of the game won't calm anyone too.

Last campaign, Fickell was banking on Tyler Van Dyke, now with SMU, to help lead the offense and power the Badgers to a strong year. Instead, he suffered a torn ACL early on in the season against Alabama, and it changed everything for the program.

The hope was that Edwards would be able to have a year to remember with the Badgers, but now everything is up in the air. With Edwards out of action, San Diego State transfer Danny O'Neil has taken over behind center for Fickell. Obviously, the Edwards issue is going to be something to monitor closely moving forward.
