Offensive line coach AJ Blazek said that true freshmen always feel like they are drinking from a fire hose when they first begin to jump into Wisconsin's offense. He spoke about how they are learning and growing, about where the early enrollees are, and he gave a shoutout to Kevin Heywood for his ability to onboard the new guys.
Heywood is only a sophomore, but since he went through it last season, he has experience knowing what the true freshmen need to learn and how they can do so. It's a bit unconventional for a sophomore to be the veteran helping the young guys, but Heywood is a natural leader.
Kevin Heywood has helped onboard five incoming freshmen during fall camp
Blazek was singing Heywood's praises for the help that he's provided the true freshmen coming in. When describing how those new players are adapting, Blazek said this:
"Kevin Heywood has done a heck of a job helping onboard guys. He went through all this a year ago. As a group they are probably ahead of where the group was a year ago. Knowing football, knowing what we are doing and offensively we are doing a lot more for those guys so there's probably more responsibility to learn. They are doing a really good job on that part. I'm excited about the future for those guys. "AJ Blazek
The Badgers don't just have a couple; they added five scholarship freshmen offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class. Logan Powell and Hardy Watts were both listed as 4-stars out of high school, with Nolan Davenport, Michael Roeske, and Cam Clark rounding out the class as 3-stars from 24/7 Sports.
The Badgers will be at Platteville for fall camp for another week, wrapping up on August 10. They will then move back to Madison to prepare for the season through regular practices and game preparation.
