The Wisconsin Badgers lost in a brutal fashion to the Oregon Ducks 77-73 in overtime. It was a complete meltdown from one half to the second. They were leading and really dominating throughout the first half, and then things began to spiral on the Badgers, and they couldn't seem to grab the game again; it continued to slip and slip away. There's one major reason why: the single most glaring stat that caused the Badgers to lose.

The Wisconsin Badgers had a season-high 17 turnovers in their loss to Oregon

The Badgers could not take care of the basketball. A high amount of turnovers makes it almost impossible to win games. Two stats inside the high turnovers for Wisconsin paint an even clearer picture.

The first is that Wisconsin had 17 turnovers, and Oregon had 8. That's a difference of nine if you don't want to do the math. That's nine extra possessions for Oregon, which leads to the next stat we need to examine, inside the turnovers for the Badgers.

Second, Oregon scored 24 points on those 17 points. Yes, you read that right, 24 free points because of careless play with the basketball. Now, a team rarely can get 0 turnovers, and thus, an opponent will get some points off turnovers. But if Wisconsin kept it realistic, like, say, eight turnovers like the Ducks. Now Oregon won't score on every turnover so let's say it led to like 12 points instead. The final score would have been 65 for Oregon. Wisconsin would have won.

This is the reason why this stat is the biggest reason that Oregon beat the Badgers. I guess it was good on the Ducks for creating that pressure, but it was terrible by the Badgers for not taking better care of the basketball.

The Badgers will now host the Washington Huskies on Tuesday at 8pm CT in the Kohl Center.
