The Badgers have officially hired a new Wisconsin football general manager, replacing Marcus Sedberry. Sedberry has moved into the interim athletic director role after Chris McIntosh left for the Big Ten offices. Wisconsin will now trust a long-time NFL executive, Morroco Brown, with the keys to handling all the backend stuff like NIL, contracts, personnel decisions, etc.
This is a great hire, and Brown's experience will help push Wisconsin football into the future more than ever. However, it puts Marcus Sedberry in a really weird spot. It's as if he's burned the boats, and he can't go back. He has no position to return to when the interim athletic director position is done.
It was actually Sedberry who hired Brown. The Wisconsin press release has Seberry saying, "We are thrilled about bringing an innovative and experienced leader to Wisconsin." This could mean about three different things for Sedberry.
Am I crazy or does this not put Marcus Sedberry in a really weird spot? https://t.co/qLCW3E7o2v

Marcus Sedberry may not end up having a job after all the dust settles in the athletic department

There are really only three options now for Sedberry, and it seems like he's trying to force one of them. It could backfire depending on how the search committee handles the process. The first option is that Sedberry drops the interim tag and becomes the actual athletic director for Wisconsin. This will come with very mixed reviews by the fanbase, but it's clearly something Sedberry is setting himself up for.
The second option is that Wisconsin creates a separate role for him after hiring a new athletic director. Maybe he becomes the associate athletic director, or he works in a different way on the staff. It's not uncommon for programs to create new positions for people they want to retain. This may not be very likely, but it should be considered as an option.
Finally, he could have simply worked himself out of a job. His former position is gone, and if Wisconsin hires a different athletic director, his current position is gone. This is why he's in a really weird spot, and it can go very well for him or go completely sideways for him.
It's certainly something that Wisconsin fans should be paying attention to, as Sedberry has burned the boats, and there is no real return for him.
