The Wisconsin Badgers added one of their top targets out of the transfer portal in Austin Rapp yesterday. Rapp is a 6'10" big man who has a very similar playing style to Steven Crowl. He can get inside and play down low, he can also step out to take a three, and spread the defense out. This is a skill that Greg Gard used a ton last year in both Nolan Winter and Steven Crowl. The exciting part of Rapp is that he made more threes last year than both Crowl and Winter combined.
83 threes 🤯

For context, Winter and Crowl combined for 66 threes.

Austin Rapp made 83 threes last season, more than Crowl and Winter combined
83 made threes is a lot. For perspective, it's not just more than Crowl and Winter combined. It's only two away from what John Tonje made last season. Tonje made 85 threes last year, followed by 58 from John Blackwell. This means that if you slid Rapp's stats from Portland into the Wisconsin stats, he'd be second on the team in made threes by a long shot.
Austin Rapp went 83-236 from deep, which is comparable to Tonje's 85-219. They went 35.2% and 38/8%, respectively. This is pretty incredible to think about, considering they play completely different positions.
In the Big Ten and with Wisconsin's playing style, Rapp may not get to attempt as many threes this next season as the bigs in the Big Ten are a bit quicker to close. There will also need to be some love to share for all the shooters at Wisconsin. However, when Rapp is out behind the arch and he gets the ball, you better get excited because he's known to knock those down and do it at an impressive rate.
Rapp is Greg Gard and Wisconsin's second transfer so far in the portal, along with Andrew Rohde from Virginia.
