There is a lot of talk about how great John Tonje's block was to end the game. How he was able to swat the ball and not pick up a foul, but the block that may have actually saved the game was Carter Gilmore's, the play before. Tre Holloman was left wide open at the top of the three-point arch and somehow Gilmore was able to crash and block the shot. In live action it looked incredible, but a picture posted online later showed just how incredible it was.

Carter Gilmore blocked Tre Holloman to save the win against Michigan State

Look how far away he is! Gilmore is literally in the second hash of the key, and Holloman has already started to pull up, yet somehow, Gilmore made the block. It was one of the most impressive defensive plays of the season. Holloman is a career 36% three-point shooter and has been known to make clutch shots. This wide open feels like it would have been a make without Gilmore blocking it.

Watch the video in full speed and then again in slow motion:

What made it equally impressive was his ability to not only get all the ball and not foul but also not pick up a foul on his way down by avoiding the body of Holloman. That's an athletic play that is hard to accomplish without a foul. Gilly James is a legend already this season, but that play helped catapult them into the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament.

We may all go to bed tonight thinking about that block and that picture at the top of this article is going to help us all go to sleep smiling. Maybe the funny conclusion to the story is Carter Gilmore asking Barstool's Big Cat if he can put that on his job application after the season.
