As if things could get any worse, the Wisconsin Badgers have essentially decided that they are no longer interested in scoring a single point, presumably for as long as Luke Fickell remains their head coach. After seeing him pretty much quit on his players in the final minutes of a winnable road game at Michigan, the Badgers have backed up their best effort in weeks by refusing to score any points!
After getting shut out 37-0 at home to a massive rival in Iowa, Wisconsin did not put a single point across in the first two frames of their next home game vs. the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes. While the Buckeyes did not play a perfect first half, they led by a sizable margin of 17-0. This includes them missing a makable field goal from deep inside of Badgers territory. Wisconsin decided to run the ball.
In a way, it feels like Fickell gets to operate without consequence. Camp Randall has never looked more empty. The fans have become apathetic, as basketball season could not get here soon enough. Even though Ohio State was probably going to cream Wisconsin anyway, one would think Fickell would have gotten his team more fired up to at least keep pace with his beloved alma mater today...
So how bad has it been? Wisconsin has scored a grand total of three points in their last 27 drives...

There are other atrocious teams scattered all over the Power Four, but Wisconsin is showing no heart.
Wisconsin's offense has become a forfeit machine under Luke Fickell
For as much as everyone wants Wisconsin to move on from Fickell as soon as tomorrow, the timing of it all suggests his day of reckoning will not be coming for another week or so. Wisconsin has another scheduled beating at Oregon next weekend before their second bye of the season. Maybe that is when the university administration finally comes to its senses? We all see what is happening here...
Overall, we can place some blame on new-ish offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes. He left Kansas to replace Phil Longo to bring a more run-centric offense to Madison. Unfortunately, it has not mattered, as the team continues to start Hunter Simmons under center in favor of Danny O'Neil, who actually won this team both of its games this season. Billy Edwards Jr. might not play another snap this year.
Ultimately, Wisconsin has to understand that nobody is enjoying this, other than their weekly Power Four opponent who end up treating this like a mini-bye. Wisconsin is too proud of a program to be this horrible on offense. The guys are playing hard, but the results are disastrous. This program needs a complete and total overhaul. At what point will the the university decide this is no longer tolerable?
There has never been another college head coach who has mailed it in more than Fickell is right now.
