Luke Fickell's Badgers are simply not on the same level as Alabama, and it's been proven two years in a row. A 42-10 blowout in Madison and now a 38-14 blowout in Tuscaloosa. While the team is supposedly better, they certainly didn't look it today. From penalties to missed assignments to explosive plays by Alabama, it was ugly. Now Luke Fickell is 0-7 against ranked opponents at Wisconsin.
This stat alone feels like a fireable offense, as Fickell cannot get his team ready for big games in his entire tenure at Wisconsin. Playing in the Big Ten means there will be opportunities every year, and yet they can't pull it off. Which means they will never get over the hill.
Dillon Graff posted this before the game:
Luke Fickell is 0-6 against ranked opponents and 3-11 against teams with winning records since taking over as head coach at Wisconsin.

Six of the next nine games come against AP Top-25 teams. Plenty of chances for Fickell to land the signature win that’s been missing.
Luke Fickell has not helped Wisconsin take a step forward since he's arrived

The statistic worsens when you realize that the Badgers will play five more ranked teams (as of this posting) before the season ends. If they play like they played against Alabama, it means Fickell could easily be 0-12 against ranked teams.
The other stat mentioned by Graff is also damning. 3-11 against teams with winning records is yikes. It's now, 3-12. This could be a long season with a daunting schedule that Badger fans may have to get comfortable with losing games again.
There's little chance Wisconsin moves on from Fickell before the season ends, and honestly, unless it's four wins or less, it's hard to imagine Chris McIntosh doing anything even before next season at all. Why? They've been pre-writing the excuse all offseason: The schedule is the toughest in the nation.
Maybe this frustrating Alabama game will spark something for the Badgers, and getting starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. back next week will change things, but it's hard to feel overly optimistic watching the Crimson Tide destroy Wisconsin for the second straight season.
