The Wisconsin Badgers are officially on a bye and the timing couldn't be better for this team. The Badgers fell to 5-4 on the year following the 42-10 loss to Iowa this past weekend. It was an embarrassing result and one that still has plenty of people pretty dang upset.

It wasn't just the fact that Wisconsin lost, though - it's that this team barely put up a fight and that's on head coach Luke Fickell for not having his players ready to play. Defensive coordinator Mike Tressel is also getting some heat, as his unit never showed up.

Just how bad were things? Well, Iowa rushed for 329 yards, which is completely inexcusable. Wisconsin knew the Hawkeyes were going to focus on the ground game leading up to things, yet they still couldn't step up. That's on Fickell and Tressel for allowing that embarrassing stat to be posted.

Wisconsin's defense dropped the ball in a major way against Iowa

Iowa has the best rushing attack in the Big Ten. With quarterback Cade McNamara out with a concussion, Brenden Sullivan got the start and he only attempted 10 pass attempts. Again, we all knew the Hawkeyes were going to feed Kaleb Johnson early and often.

Multiple other backs were called upon too, yet Tressel's game plan before kickoff was a mess and there were no adjustments made to try and stop the bleeding. We never want to see Wisconsin give up 42 points to Iowa again and we sure as heck don't want to see more than 300 yards on the ground allowed against the Hawkeyes, or any team for that matter.

Wisconsin has far too many talented guys on defense to allow such a disheartening performance to be posted. Things aren't going to get any easier for Wisconsin, as No. 1 Oregon is on the schedule following the bye. Tressel needs to wake up and make sure this defense is ready to rock.
