Braeden Carrington has turned into the unsung hero from the transfer portal. He was underrated and under hyped coming into the Badger program this season from Tulsa. However, over the last month, a new gear has emerged for Carrington, and much of the five-game win streak can rest on his energy. He's been electric, and there are a few stats that reveal just how beneficial he's been.
3-point shooting has jumped more than 10%
Carrington's best year shooting the basketball from behind the arc was at a 33.6% clip. He's averaging this season, 43.8%. That's over a 10% jump from when he was at either Minnesota or Tulsa. In January, it gets even better as he's been shooting 50% from three during this month. He's made 32 threes already this season. All of these numbers are impressive for the bench guard who is only getting 14.3 minutes per game this season.
Carrington is averaging double-digit points in January
The other impressive stat is that during January, Carrington is averaging 11.8 points a game. To put that into perspective, the best season of his career was last year at Tulsa, when he averaged 7.4 points per game over nearly 27 minutes. While his minutes are up from the 14.3 he's averaging on the year during January, it's still not 27 minutes.
Carrington is one of Wisconsin's top rebounders this month
Right now, Nolan Winter is outpacing all of his teammates in rebounding. He's averaging 8.8 boards per game this season. Behind him is John Blackwell at 4.8 a game. Then way down on the list is Braeden Carrington at 2.3. However, in January, Carrington had 4.0 a game. Which would make him one of the top rebounders for Wisconsin this month.
Carrington is on an insane run, and it doesn't appear to be a fluke as he's stepping into his role and playing aggressively. He came in as a defensive specialist, but he's turned into so much more.
