Former Badger T.J. Edwards went viral after last night's Monday Night Football game. The Bears linebacker who helped seal the Chicago victory over the Philadelphia Eagles was seen eavesdropping on the Eagles' huddle before securing an important interception. The Bears would go on to win the game 27-7, but the Edward interaction went crazy on the internet.
Players are known for trying to sneak into huddles, but what made this one so viral was that Edwards did the "listen-in," and the next play went and picked off Jalen Hurts. Like, he figured out the play and then went and executed it. However, Edwards says that's not actually what happened.
In a post-game interview, Edwards joked that he was trying to lean in and said, "Maybe I'll hear some familiar stuff." But he said that the Eagles have clearly changed the language from when he played in Philadelphia because "I had no idea what they were talking about."

Edwards was first a Wisconsin Badger, where he was a stud linebacker in a long line of linebackers. He played in Madison from 2014 to 2018 and recorded 367 tackles and 10 interceptions. He went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft but was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. It was here that he made his NFL name, playing for the Eagles from 2019 to 2022.
In his final season for Philadelphia, he compiled 159 tackles with zero interceptions as an inside linebacker. It's been four years since he was part of the Eagles, but he was still curious to see if he recognized any of the play calls. He also doesn't mind chopping it up a bit in the NFL.
According to Edwards, it had been far too long since he was there; all he heard was confusion out of Hurts' mouth. "They must have changed the language up," Edwards said. Yet, Edwards immediately dropping from his spot to pick off the Philadelphia QB was one heck of a coincidence.
Did Edwards actually get a bead on the play, and is he just downplaying it in the postgame interview? Maybe. Since it's not illegal to overhear plays or even try to sneak into a huddle, it doesn't really matter. Either way, he made a great play and was able to haul in the important interception.
The Bears weren't expected to win, but somehow were able to pull it off, and part of that was the play of Edwards, who finished the game with three tackles, one interception, and three passes defensed. While many Wisconsin fans don't like the Bears, all of us are rooting for Edwards in the NFL (and the other former Badgers).
