Trick or Treat? Can Wisconsin Give Penn State a Scare on Saturday?
At 5-2, and looking like a completely different football team than the one we watched in September, the October Badgers welcome in No. 3 Penn State to Camp Randall. It's a pivotal game for Wisconsin where we can take off the mask and truly find out what the team is made of. So, have we been tricked the last few weeks? Or is the rest of the season going to be a treat?
Trick
If turnovers rear their ugly head, the Badgers will have a tough time overcoming them to beat a good team like Penn State. Braedyn Locke has thrown five interceptions on the year, including four over Wisconsin's recent three-game win streak. Wisconsin has also lost seven fumbles on the year. The team just isn't built to come back from huge deficits. It's a big problem and, despite the success over the last few games, an issue Wisconsin hasn't been able to solve.
Wisconsin's front seven could also potentially be exposed against Penn State. The group has yet to really dominate and disrupt any backfields with sacks, and quarterback Drew Allar may be able to take advantage when past quarterbacks could not.
Treat
The Wisconsin run game is once again front and center and running back Tawee Walker is beginning to make a name for himself. His plethora of touchdowns, including six over the last three games, have powered the Badger offense. He'll face a tough Penn State front, but if there is a path to victory it most likely runs through Walker.
The Badger offensive line is their strongest in years, and they'll have a chance to prove it Saturday night. Projected first round NFL draft pick Abdul Carter will be across the way and will be one of the biggest challenges they'll face all year. Still, the line has only allowed five sacks on quarterback Braedyn Locke and it's a good thing too. Locke is just 9-for-24 on throws under pressure this season. The offensive line will need to make a statement in this one.
