Tyler Van Dyke One and Done at Wisconsin, Enters Transfer Portal

After just two and a half games played at Wisconsin, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has entered the transfer portal according to Pete Thamel. He will have one year of eligibility left.

Van Dyke was a highly coveted transfer from Miami last year for Wisconsin. He eventually beat out Braedyn Locke during camp for the starting job, but was injured in just the third game of the season against Alabama. He finished his short year with 422 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions before his season-ending ACL tear.

Coach Luke Fickell had said previously that Van Dyke wanted to come back for another year of football, but made clear that he was unsure of how the quarterback would progress through his injury. ACL tears can have recoveries of up to a year, putting his start to 2025 in jeopardy. It's another schools dilemma now, as Van Dyke will play his final season of college football elsewhere.

After the Badgers fired offensive coordinator Phil Longo, the chances of Van Dyke returning diminished greatly. Still, he had some solid years at Miami and probably would have had the Badgers in a better spot had he not gotten injured. Wisconsin will now most likely look to the transfer portal themselves, as Locke proved he isn't a long term answer, and the incoming freshman may not be ready captain the ship. New OC Jeff Grimes, who Wisconsin hired this week, may now get to hand pick his own quarterback for his offense.
