For a lot of Wisconsin Badgers fans out there, they're still riding high over the news that four-star quarterback Carter Smith is going to be Wisconsin-bound for the 2025 class. Smith is one of the top signal-callers in the country and he's got a bright future.

With that said, it's looking like Smith is going to be making his way to town earlier than people anticipated. According to 247's Nick Osen, Smith will be graduating from high school early and he'll be enrolling in classes at Wisconsin in January. This has become popular for quarterbacks and Smith is ready to make the leap to the college game:

For some people, this may not seem like a big deal, but it truly is going to be massive for Smith's development. It's one thing that he'll be getting used to college life early, but he'll also be going through spring practices with the Badgers and Luke Fickell in the coming months too.

He'll get a jumpstart at learning the offense, executing plays on the field and studying film with the Wisconsin coaching staff. Had he enrolled next summer like most players will, he'd have to wait until fall camp to get his first reps.

Now, though, Smith is going to get ready to say goodbye to his family in Florida and head north to Wisconsin for this next step in his young life. We're not saying Smith is going to win the starting job as a true freshman, but he's going to indeed gain valuable experience right away.

Looking at the QBs room for 2025, things are a bit up in the air. Braedyn Locke is the QB1 this year, but he took over for the injured Tyler Van Dyke, who tore his ACL in the Week 3 loss to Alabama. Earlier this week, Fickell said Van Dyke wants to return next season, but it will depend on how he heals up. Regardless of if he plays or not, getting Smith to Madison early and guiding him starting in January is a nice surprise for this team.
