Wisconsin football has been in the national news a lot the last few months, especially the defensive backs, and especially those defensive backs in battles with the NCAA. Former defensive back Xavier Lucas has made a ton of headlines in his transfer from Wisconsin to Miami since December. It's still ongoing because he did it without ever being in the transfer portal, and it looks like it's headed to court.
Wisconsin now has a new defensive back in a lawsuit but this time in a positive light for the Badgers.
Nyzier Fourqurean is taking the NCAA to court over DII seasons like Diego Pavia did for JUCO seasons
Fourqurean is trying to get the NCAA to allow him to play another year for Wisconsin and not count the two DII seasons that he played at Grand Valley State University. He is listed as a redshirt senior on the Wisconsin website (from last football season), and this means he would be out of eligibility. However, if he's able to get those DII seasons nullified, he will have two more years to play for Wisconsin.
This is a similar lawsuit to the one that Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia brought before the NCAA during the season, in which he argued that junior college seasons should not count against the NCAA eligibility requirements. He ended up winning that lawsuit, and as of now, JUCO players will be eligible for four years of collegiate football after JUCO.
Fourqurean is pushing for DII to not count in the same vein as Pavia.
Fourqurean, in his two years as a Badger, has accumulated 90 tackles, seven pass deflections, and one interception. He was one of the best tackling defensive backs for the Badgers last season, recording a whopping 51 tackles. With his rising success from DII to the two years at Wisconsin, Fourqurean hopes another year will help him get on scouts' radars and play at the next level.
