Wisconsin will face off against Minnesota on Friday and there's a lot on the line. Not only will it be a battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe, but it will also be the Badgers' last chance at getting bowl eligible. Countless other things like commits, de-commits and hirings and firings could hinge on the outcome of the game as well. As of right now, the Badgers are slight favorites, but how do things stand all-time against the Golden Gophers?
Wisconsin is 63-62 with eight ties against Minnesota in their 134 year history. In their first matchup all the way back in 1890, Wisconsin actually got clobbered 0-63. Things have gone a little smoother as of late, with the Badgers winning seven of the last ten, including last season's border battle.
With a loss on Friday, Wisconsin will allow Minnesota to even up the all-time series and will not be eligible for a bowl game for the first time in 23 years. At 5-7, the risk will also increase for potential de-commits and coach firings. With a win, Wisconsin will keep the axe, their bowl eligible streak and possible open the gates for more highly rated recruits.
The Minnesota game is always one of the most important every year for Wisconsin, but this year feels like it will carry meaning. Head coach Luke Fickell is already starting to feel the heat as the the Badgers have slipped into a four-game losing streak, so defeating Minnesota will be crucial.
