Wisconsin's athletic director has released a statement in open support of head football coach Luke Fickell. Even after two back-to-back shutout losses to Iowa and Ohio State. In a season that may end up with only two wins, Chris McIntosh has decided to tie his job directly to Fickell's. He's tied himself to Fickell's ship mast and will go down with the sinking ship. It's a startling to say the least considering how terrible both have been at their jobs.

Chris McIntosh gives a strong vote of confidence for Luke Fickell

As you read the statement, you can see that Chris McIntosh has decided it's not the coaching that's the problem but instead it's the investment into the program. In other words, more money to spend on players and resources. Yet, there are two problems with this statement and both showcase that McIntosh is bad at his job.

The first is that Wisconsin currently fields a team with mediocre NIL investment and yet are losing anyways. Sure, maybe teams like Ohio State and Alabama will outpace them in the NIL and on the field. But Maryland? Iowa? Chris McIntosh needs to evaluate the program better, if he thinks Luke Fickell is good at his job.

Secondly, and more damning is that McIntosh basically admits that he hasn't done a good job at investing in football. He's not a new athletic director and yet he blatantly says in this release that the football program doesn't have enough resources, you know who's job that is? The athletic director. So who failed, Chris? Who failed? It was you.

There may only be two-wins this season and McIntosh seems eager to run it back with Luke Fickell again next year. This places his own job in jeopardy as the pressure will mount and if he can't cut bait, they both may end up seeing the door.
