Wisconsin Badgers linked with 4-star QB who just decommitted from Michigan
With the 2025 Early Signing Period around the corner, the Wisconsin Badgers and Luke Fickell already have a quarterback on board for the class. That'd be 3-star prospect Landyn Locke, the younger brother of Badgers' starter Braedyn Locke.
However, could another signal-caller be on the way for the '25 haul? On Wednesday night, Michigan lost a commitment from 4-star QB Carter Smith. The news is only spicing up the rumors that perhaps the Wolverines are about to flip Bryce Underwood from LSU.
On top of that, though, Smith is now looking for a new future campus to call home. Could that home end up being in Madison? Shortly after the decommitment news dropped, On3's Keegan Pope wrote that he expects three teams to be in the mix for Smith, including the Badgers:
4-star QB Carter Smith decommits from Michigan and Wisconsin is now in the mix
In addition to Wisconsin, Pope is reporting that Clemson and Penn State are also hoping to land Smith. Not long ago, Smith said that he was locked in with Michigan and he wasn't planning to focus on any other programs.
However, anything can change in recruiting at the drop of a dime and the Underwood-to-Michigan speculation only continues to grow. It's gotten to a point that LSU fans should be worried that the 5-star playmaker could end up flipping his decision soon, though nothing is imminent at this point.
As for Wisconsin, it's clear they need help at quarterback moving forward. Braedyn Locke has taken over as the starter after Tyler Van Dike tore his ACL, but he has been far too inconsistent and he's not the answer moving forward. Mabrey Mettauer is on campus and has exciting potential, but extra competition is always a good thing.
Smith is ranked the No. 14 quarterback in the country per the 247Sports Composite and the No. 26 player overall from Florida. Throughout his recruitment, he has picked up north of 20 offers. A new decision could be coming from him soon - don't be surprised if the Badgers end up being his choice, as that door is wide open.
