There was a good collection of news items that happened over the weekend, and a few of them you don't want to miss. There's simply not enough time to write every story (for us) or read every story (for you). Therefore, it's important once in a while to just have someone drop a few links into an article and help you see some of the things that may have been missed but are still Wisconsin Badger-related.
Wisconsin Badgers volleyball drop a spot in AVCA Volleyball Top 25 Ranking
Wisconsin volleyball has won six straight and four straight ranked matches. Yet, after another big win on the road against Minnesota, the Badgers lost a spot in the AVCA Volleyball Top 25 Rankings. Wisconsin went from No. 6 to No. 7. Why? Well, mainly due to Florida beating Kentucky and needing to jump into the top area of the rankings.
However, it's all wrong in more ways than one. You can read all about how the poll got messed up this week because of that, and what could have been done differently. Read that article here.
Wisconsin will have a chance to change all that this week when they play No. 24 Illinois, followed by No. 1 Nebraska. They can do their own jump forward with wins over both of those programs. It's a tough ask, but if they feel they've been disrespected, it's time to change that.
Wisconsin Football also dropped in the AP Top 25 poll
Technically, Wisconsin football wasn't in the AP Top 25 poll but was receiving the most votes of any team on the outside. Last week, Wisconsin had 102 votes and was unofficially the No. 26 team in the AP Poll. A week later, after beating Michigan State 31-3, somehow the Badgers fell to 88 votes and were the third most-voted team on the outside looking in.
Just like volleyball, do everything right, do it with commanding fashion, and still drop in the rankings. The disrespect is real. However, I am of the belief that Wisconsin shouldn't be ranked yet, not because of the schedule or anything like that. I think it's better for this team to play with a chip on their shoulder. An us-against-the-world mentality, fighting to prove the haters wrong. We do not want this team to believe their own hype when they've only won four games so far this season.
Darryl Peterson III gets a call up to the NFL
Former Badger Darryl Peterson III has been on the practice squad for the Los Angeles Rams, but before their game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he got the call-up to the main team. It was a big moment for the former Badger, who went from an unlikely UDFA in the NFL to a preseason stud to a practice squad, and now he's getting his chance.
He ended up not logging any playing time against the Eagles and was there for depth, but he was active and available.
A really cool thing happened, though: on the same day he got his first call-up to the NFL, his brother Darryn Peterson logged his first NBA preseason game for the Utah Jazz. The first brothers to be drafted into the NFL and NBA in the same season were also both activated on the same day.
