The Wisconsin Badgers are the most represented collegiate team among the Women's hockey Olympic teams. They are also the most represented on the podium. Badgers not only won six gold medals, but also five silver medals, and even one bronze medal. It was a sweep of the podium, and nothing shows Badger hockey dominance like letting the world see the best college hockey program in the world.
6 Badgers won a gold medal with Team USA
Team USA clinched the gold medal in dramatic fashion, with even some theatrics, to send it to overtime by former Wisconsin player Hilary Knight. She scored with an assist from current Badger Laila Edwards, and snuck it by the Canadian goalie who's also a former Badger: Ann-Renée Desbiens. Then one of the few non-Badger stars, Megan Keller cealed the gold in overtime for Team USA.
These are the six Badgers (current/former) to win a gold medal:
Laila Edwards
Caroline Harvey
Ava McNaughton
Kirsten Simms
Britta Curl-Salemme
Hilary Knight
5 Badgers won silver medal with Team Canada
This means that Team Canada gets the silver after falling in overtime to Team USA. There are five former Wisconsin women's hockey players on that roster, and they are:
Ann-Renée Desbiens
Blayre Turnbull
Daryl Watts
Emily Clark
Sarah Nurse
1 Badger won a bronze medal with Team Switzerland
The final Badger on the podium is more of a surprise. By now, you've heard about Team USA knocking off the reigning champs, Team Canada, and securing the gold. However, the bronze medal game went to Switzerland over Sweden.
It was also a great game, and there's another former Badger receiving a medal. This time, it's assistant coach for the Switzerland team, Cyndy Kenyon. She played for Wisconsin from 2002 to 2006 and has found her way into the coaching ranks. She's now part of the staff for Team Switzerland and will get to have a bronze medal.
The Badgers successfully swept the podium in Women's Hockey this year and are continuing to showcase their dominance, this time to the world.
