Wisconsin basketball practices are back in full swing, and the biggest talking point may have been the addition of new coach Brad Davison. His energy, willingness, and excitement in practice were contagious. There's another small thing that happened in practice that is exciting and would add a wrinkle to the Badgers' offense, a drill in which Nick Boyd would attack with a lob to a big guy.

The video below shows one of the lobs from Boyd to true freshman and 7'1 center Will Garlock. However, this was happening with other big men and guards.

Wisconsin may be looking to add a forward-facing and attacking big man play to their arsenal. It's a wrinkle that helps with the style of play that Wisconsin already employs on offense. The stretch style of offense allows back cuts and now front cuts, especially with an explosive attacking point guard like Nick Boyd.

It's doubtful that this will be a regular part of the playbook, but instead a changeup. It will be a wrinkle that Greg Gard can exploit at times when it seems that defenses are collapsing on the guards. It won't be necessary to throw a lob more than on the occasion when it works. Think of it like a trick play in football, you don't make it a normal part of the playbook, but you use it when the time is right.

However, if Garlock and Winter can utilize their 7-foot energy to create the spark needed to energize the offense, don't be surprised to see them throw it down.

This is another good point about the video shown, as Garlock dunks with ease, which gets the excitement up for the season coming later this month.
