Wisconsin basketball is already upon us with the first exhibition game starting this weekend. There's a lot of anticipation for this season as the starting lineup is almost entirely new. The fact that the Badgers were bumped out of the NCAA Tournament in an unexpected and frustrating way adds even more buildup to this season.
The first exhibition is happening on Saturday, and many Wisconsin fans won't be distracted by football and can tune in to see Greg Gard's squad in action. It may be an interesting mix of how he plays his guys, and since the level of competition is low enough, there may be a really deep bench.
Let's get into the info for the game:
How to watch Wisconsin vs. UW-Parkside Exhibition Game 1
- Date: Saturday, October 10
- Time: 12:00 p.m. CT
- Venue: Kohl Center, Madison, Wisconsin
- How to Watch (TV): B1G+
- Streaming: B1G+
- Wisconsin record: 0-0
- UW-Parkside record: 0-0
This is tough if you don't have a B1G+ subscription. It's not on the Big Ten Network or cable TV; it is only available through the additional subscription of B1G+.. That subscription runs at $89.99 a year or $12.99 a month. You can also get passes for three months or six months.
If you aren't in for the extra subscriptions, you are out of luck for the exhibitions. The first and third exhibition games are B1G+, and the second game against Green Bay is only on the radio. Another option is listening to all three on Badger Radio Network.
Lineups and rotations
Greg Gard hasn't officially released a starting lineup or a rotation. These exhibitions may begin to give us a flair for what that looks like. He has mentioned that he has 12 players who should be on the floor, and it will be up to him and his coaching staff to figure out how to manage that. There's a lot of depth to this team, and it's incredible that he thinks 12 players are deserving to play meaningful minutes this season.
It does seem like the four most obvious starters are Nolan Winter, Owen Foxwell, Eian Elmer, and Austin Rapp. Braeden Carrington would seemingly be the fifth if he does end up being fully cleared.
We should also see Victory Onuetu, Trey Autry, Will Garlock, Jackson Ball, Jack Janicki, Hayden Jones, and Zach Kinziger. That's the 12, counting the five above, that seem to be the 12 that Gard has mentioned. How does it all shake out, and what does the rotation look like? I think the exhibition games will help Gard figure this out.
The guard depth is too deep for them all to have a role, but the forward and centers should all see meaningful minutes except maybe Isaac Riddle, who is a development project.
So, stay tuned if you don't have B1G+ to some of the keys and things we've learned from the first exhibition. Actually, stay tuned even if you do, for basketball coverage is just getting started here at Badger of Honor.
