As the Big Ten Awards were rolling out, Wisconsin fans were expecting a name to appear at any moment. First-Team Big Ten was announced, and not too much of a shock, the expectation was second or third team anyways. As those came and went and Badger fans never saw John Blackwell, they let their voice be heard on social media.
A quick look on social media shows Wisconsin fans are furious, and from our chair, they have every right to be. Type in "John Blackwell" into the search of X and you'll see it very quickly. Here are a few examples:
How does John Blackwell not make an All-Big Ten team? #Badgers

Feels like Blackwell got snubbed. Great, great league this year, but 16, 5 and 2 a game should get you on an All-Conference team #Badgers
— Nick Osen (@TheRealNickOsen) March 11, 2025
John Tonje was the only #Badgers player to earn an All-Big Ten selection.

No John Blackwell on first, second, or third team.
Did John Blackwell die?

No second or third team for him?#Badgers https://t.co/tQuKx7Id5h
John Blackwell was missing from first, second, and third team Big Ten Awards, frustrating Badger fans
Blackwell had an excellent year for the Badgers and often got hot when Tonje was cold. He knew how to play his role in a helpful and efficient way for the Badgers. If Wisconsin needed a bucket, he would willingly go get it. He could also shoot the three and was one of the top free-throw shooters on the team.
Blackwell's 2025 per game stats:
15.6 points
5.2 rebounds
2.2 assists
32.6% from three
45.6% from the field
These are better stats than almost the entirety of the Big Ten Third-Team and even as good as and easily part of the Big Ten Second-Team. It was a very clear oversight for both the media and the coaches to not include Blackwell.
He did get an honorable mention from both the coaches and the media. However, that's not where he belongs, and Wisconsin fans know it, which is why they are outraged online. The voters clearly missed on this one, and Blackwell will now have an extra chip on his shoulder.
