Marisa Moseley is a likable coach and a person you want to root for; there's no doubt about that. Wisconsin fans also know that she inherited a mess that was forced upon her. She had to find a way to clean it up and rebuild the program. The problem is that the mess is still around, and the program has not been rebuilt after four seasons. As hard as it is for fans to call for Moseley's job, it feels like it's time.
This season is not turning a corner, it's getting worse for Moseley.
Four seasons is long enough to see if the rebuild is going to work. However, this season is a backward step, not a forward one. The women are currently on a seven-game losing streak, and there isn't a lot of hope in their future schedule. There is a possibility that they will lose out. While they should be able to beat Penn State and Purdue, those are away games.
Let's look at the stats for Moseley's tenure. She is currently:
18-44 in the Big Ten.
44-64 overall.
This season, the Wisconsin women's basketball team is 1-7 in the conference and 10-9 on the season. Their lone win Big Ten win was against Rutgers. Last season ended with a four-game losing streak in the conference. The women were invited to the NIT even with a losing overall record. They won a couple of games there and lost in the third round. This was a moment of feeling like things were finally turning around. Nope.
The program needs to be turned around, and the brand needs to be revived. Wisconsin high school women's basketball stars are finding success at other schools and not sticking around to play in Madison. This needs to change, and there needs to be some Xs and Os changes on the court to steal games, rebuild the image, and gather some wins. It's a bad product right now, and the Wisconsin fans are calling for a coaching change.
