Former Badger Jonathan Taylor has a stat that only two other NFL players have ever done. Both of those players are Hall of Famers and are synonymous with legendary running backs. Jim Brown, Eric Dickerson, and now Jonathan Taylor can say that they've averaged over 100 yards per game in two of their first five seasons.
At 102.2 yards a game last season, Taylor now has two seasons among his first five in which his average eclipses the 100-yard mark per game. This is hard to do in the modern NFL, and as you can tell, he's the only modern player to have done this.
JONATHAN TAYLOR, @Colts RB - Has averaged 100+ yards rushing per game in 2 of first 5 career seasons - the only players to do that more to start career are Jim Brown and Eric Dickerson (Per NFL) #ForTheShoe #Colts #Indianapolis #NFL #NFLUK #nflnews #NFLDraft #NFL2025 #NFLPicks pic.twitter.com/r24093asGe

Jonathan Taylor continues to show that he's one of the best NFL running backs of all time
Jim Brown is one of the most legendary running backs of all time. He played in the 1950s for the Cleveland Browns and was an absolute wrecking ball for NFL defenders trying to tackle him. Eric Dickerson, who played in the 1980s and into the early 90s, was known for the same incredible ability. He just could not be stopped easily, and it often took two or three players to get him to the ground. Both Dickerson and Brown averaged over 100 yards per game in four of their first five seasons. You have to wonder if Taylor could have had three or four seasons, too, if not for injury.
The biggest problem for Jonathan Taylor is his injury history. He has only had two seasons without missing time due to injury. In 2020, he had to sit out a game for COVID protocol, and in 2021, he played the entire season, but since then, he's at least missed a few games. In 2022, his ankle sprain sent him to the IR.
The Indianapolis Colts are looking forward to a year of injury-free Taylor, during which he can return to those legendary numbers and get his career back on track.
