Luke Fickell is carrying his 2027 recruiting momentum into 2028 with his first major recruiting win of the class. Wisconsin has received a verbal commitment from 4-star linebacker out of Florida, Cale Britt. He chose the Badgers over 35 other offers and is already considered one of the top linebackers in his class and a top-50 player in the state of Florida.
Britt spent all of June receiving offers from all over the country, including Alabama, Michigan, Auburn, Tennessee, Penn State, and even his home state, Florida. He's a highly sought-after prospect because of how he projects in college. Yet, he's a young player with only two years of high school under his belt, and two more seasons to play high school football. There's work for Britt to still do, and he could even climb higher in these rankings before he even arrives as a freshman in Madison.

Wisconsin was one of the first high-major offers to come Britt's way, and Mike Tressel immediately began building a relationship with the young linebacker. While other offers were coming, Tressel and Britt were already building a foundation. Britt ultimately couldn't imagine himself playing anywhere but Wisconsin.
In the video that he posted on his social media with his family. He's seen getting ready to leave, he tries on an Oregon shirt, a Minnesota shirt, and his family shoots down both of those. He finally puts on a Wisconsin jersey and hat, and as he arrives back in the living room, his family is also in full Wisconsin gear, and they all say, "Obviously!"
It shows that he and his family made this decision and knew it was the "obvious choice." That's telling for his recruiting, and the Badgers under Luke Fickell have been known to feel like that family. He told 24/7 Sports' Zach Bolstein, "It literally just felt like home, honestly... Then also, one thing for me was every visit I went to, Wisconsin just kept -- it was stuck in the back of my head. The way it made my heart feel, it was just amazing. I couldn't stop thinking about them, and I was like, why wait? Why would I wait when I could just pull the trigger now?"
The 2028 class is so fresh, and the rankings are still so raw, as those recruits have only played their freshman and sophomore years of football. But for now, Britt is considered the No. 21 linebacker in the country and the No. 27 player in Florida. 24/7 Sports has him listed as a 0.8987 composite rating.
The 2028 starts with a bang and picks up where the 2027 leaves off. That recruiting class hasn't even closed yet, and 2028 has already begun. The Badgers have a top-25 recruiting class for 2027, and it has plenty of 4-star recruits, with the anchor and top player in that class from Florida. There may be a little pipeline going from Florida to Wisconsin.
