Wisconsin football has lost another offensive linemen this week. The first was a major injury that will sideline Kevin Heywood for the whole season. This time, it's a true-freshman offensive lineman, Derek Jensen. He spent all of last season using his redshirt but has decided this season he wants to move along to a new college home.

Derek Jensen has decided to transfer out of the Wisconsin Badgers
Derek Jensen came out of high school as a 4-star prospect and was listed as a future starter along the offensive line for Luke Fickell. At 6'6" and 314lbs he has excellent size and weight for the position and was spending the last season building muscle and learning the offense while waiting his turn. However, that turn won't come as he has decided to find another school to play at.
Jensen may be best known for his feature on College GameDay last season, when the TV show highlighted the importance of a locker room. Jensen lost his father before the season and they showed him singing before his team and the team encouraging him through it.

In this video, he sings proudly to his teammates.
And HC Luke Fickell notes “after that moment you could see a weight had been lifted off his shoulders”

GameDay also went behind the scenes a little to show how Wisconsin football was there for Jensen when he needed them most. And while it may seem hard to understand after all that how Jensen could move along to a new school. It's hard to know all the details of the why and maybe Wisconsin was there when he needed it most, but now he's ready to take a different step in his life. Not every stop is the final destination.

Now Luke Fickell will be looking for one more offensive lineman in the portal. He's down two, and that's a position group that needs a lot of depth. It's hard to go through a season without a handful of lineman injuries.
