The Wisconsin Badgers are chasing down a priority offensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting class named Reed Gerken. The 3-star target from Perrysburg, Ohio, has narrowed his list to four programs: Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Gerken was recently given a crystal ball to pick Kentucky, but his decision to make his announcement on June 8 may actually help the Badgers the most.

Gerken has announced that he will pick his school live on CBS Sports' College Football YouTube channel on Monday, June 8. This is before he even takes all his official visits, but if you look closely at the timing, he is making this decision after his visit to Madison over the weekend of June 6th.

Gerken may be considered a lean towards Kentucky, and Josh Edwards, the Kentucky 24/7 Sports expert, has put his prediction in for the Wildcats. On3.com also thinks Gerken is headed to Kentucky. However, Wisconsin may be the second favorite, and offensive line coach Eric Mateos and Luke Fickell will have the last crack at him before his live decision.

If Gerken is leaning towards Kentucky right now, his visit to Lexington isn't even until June 19. So that official visit won't get to weigh into his decision. While maybe he's already made up his mind, if he takes his next two visits to Virginia Tech this weekend and Wisconsin next weekend. There is still a strong chance he could be changing his mind and moving the needle toward those directions.

Recruiting is a wild world, and things change all the time, but this is a target that Mateos has zeroed in on as a good fit for his scheme. Gerken is 6'5 and nearly 300 pounds, that's the type of big body that Mateos and Fickell are looking for along the Wisconsin Badger offensive line.
